Meet The SecuriCare Team: Laura Crosdale
Name: Laura Crosdale
Job Title: Colorectal Nurse Specialist
Location: University Hospitals of Leicester.
Tell us about your background
My experience in the field of Colorectal Nursing spans a 10 year period after qualifying from De Monfort University in Leicester. I have worked in both the NHS and within a private setting looking after patients who are experiencing colorectal problems.
My role as a Colorectal Nurse Specialist for University Hospital of Leicester (UHL) began early in 2018. My interest in the care of patients with colorectal issues started from the very beginning of my nursing career, and soon developed into a passion.
What’s a typical working day like for you?
My working day begins with checking the telephone and following up any messages from patients with queries, or those who require information/support.
We have a Consultant Clinic most days which I usually attend to see patients alongside the Consultant. As a team, we also run our own nurse-led clinics where we assess patients 6 months after their surgery with the objective of determining how they are coping and to assess their individual needs for ongoing support.
We advise patients of what their ongoing follow up will be, so they have a clear plan and understanding of what this entails, which can include regular blood tests and scans, amongst other things.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I thoroughly enjoy my role as a Colorectal Nurse Specialist and feel it puts me in a privileged position to work alongside the patients and their families. Outside of work I enjoy family time with my son, and socialising with my friends.
